Design and Technology
In Design and Technology we design and make products to solve problems
The Design and Technology curriculum has been planned to:
- Allow application of learning across the subject for example: In year 6 we have planned a unit on mechanisms of gears and pulleys. To effectively complete this unit of work, the children need an understanding of how to build a sturdy, strong frame. Therefore, in year 5 children complete a unit of work on frame structures that will be used and applied in year 6.
- Allow over learning of key concepts in other subjects. for example: electricity and circuits are taught as part of our DT, Science and computing curriculums. These are planned in at different times to allow over learning and application of learning in other subjects.
- Opportunities to revisit learning.
- Reflect National Association guidance. Mendell Primary has written the DT curriculum using resources from the Design and Technology Association (DATA). DATA are a membership organisation providing advice, support and training for those involved in teaching design, engineering and technology. They work closely with government, awarding bodies, Ofsted and other regulators, advising on the curriculum and lobbying on behalf of the subject.
For further information, please contact our DT lead Mrs O’Neill Edwards via the school office.
The lead governor for DT is Chris Bennett.
